Unshackled: How to Forgive & Receive Forgiveness

Introduction

I have written a book on forgiveness, and I wanted to share some highlights of the book as blog posts. Over the course of the next several weeks, I am going to release some of the content from my book. In this first article, I talk about who needs this book and why it’s relevant to my readers. I hope you enjoy the posts!

A Short Preface on Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a theme throughout the Bible which can be so easy to misunderstand or misinterpret. We as humans tend to be so unforgiving. We allow ourselves to harbor resentment and anger rather than extending grace and forgiveness. I have had a rocky journey with the forgiveness of Christ and extending that same forgiveness to others. In this book, we will look at some of the giants of the Bible. Giants who either exhibit unforgiveness or forgiveness. We will explore what Jesus taught about forgiveness, and outline practical steps to learn to forgive others.

If you are reading this [book], then you’re probably searching for a way to forgive those who hurt you. Are you in a season where non-forgiveness is gnawing at you? Do you carry the weight of the one who hurt you? Perhaps you are ready to move on from your feelings of resentment. There is even a chance that you are in a season where you honestly don’t think there’s anyone to forgive. However, given that we are in a fallen world – there will be plenty of opportunities to forgive. You may want to have some tools in your pocket should the need arise.

Whatever your journey is, just know that I have walked that journey. I am walking that path, and will walk that road for my lifetime. You will too if you choose to follow Christ. This book is for anyone who has been offended, hurt, or rejected. Or so it is my very deep hope, this book may help you on your path to healing. So, buckle up buttercup, because we’re going to be diving into some deep and heavy stuff. The good news is, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I have seen it myself, the light named Jesus.
